LOCAL FAMILY NEEDS YOUR HELP

A front page article in a recent Gettysburg Times (March 28, 2008), has inspired the Historic Round Barn & Farm Market folks (operators and staff) to join in the fund-raising to help the Spangler Family by donating 10% of our total sales from our opening weekend, April 18, 19 & 20. We will also have a bin labeled "KANS FOR KATERINA" on site to receive aluminum cans until the Spanglers tell us to stop.  SEE STORY BELOW.

The Spanglers, a local family from Gettysburg, are doing everything in their power to adopt Katerina. Lisa Spangler, the mom, heard about Katerina, a 15 year-old blond-haired, legally blind, Latvian orphan. Bringing this situation to her family's attention, they prayed for her and "God did work in our hearts". Though never planning on adoption, they all began to feel the family would not be complete until Katerina was here.  TIME IS NOT ON THEIR SIDE. Katerina turns 16 on July 19, 2008,  just a few short months away. OK, so what? At 16 Katerina will be forced out of the orphanage AND at 16 she will no longer be eligible for adoption in the United States.  The only way she "wins" is if the Spanglers can get through the process and get her into the United States BEFORE her 16th birthday. Problem is, if you've ever dealt with governments and agencies, this is no small feat. In addition, the Spanglers need at least $20,000 to stay in the running. In addition to dipping into their own savings, they are graciously accepting help from their church and others. That's where we come in!  So the race is on to raise enough money to help the Spangler family bring Katerina to the United States before being cast out of the Latvian orphanage.

NOW ABOUT THE CANS! The family is willing to do whatever it takes to complete their family with the addition of Katerina. Even the Spanglers' sons, Nathan (8), Jonathan (6) and Daniel (4) are chipping in by collecting aluminum cans to help raise some extra money. So, if you have any aluminum cans that you've been saving up, please bring them to the Round Barn and donate them to the cause by placing them in our "Kans for Katerina" bin. The cans will be collected until the Spanglers say stop!  In addition to Lisa, Nathan, Jonathan and Daniel, the family currently also includes Tim, the dad, Bethany (2 1/2) and Naomi (1).

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU OUT ON OUR OPENING WEEKEND TO HELP BRING KATERINA HOME!!!
